Short answer: If you are a foreign national in Turkey, for example from Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq or another country, and you have received a deportation decision, are held in a removal center, had a residence permit refused or cancelled, or have a problem with your refugee, international protection or temporary protection status, contact a lawyer immediately. Deadlines are short: a lawsuit against a deportation decision generally has to be filed within 7 days of notification, and a lawsuit against a residence permit refusal within 60 days. Turhan Hukuk & Danışmanlık in Ankara handles these cases before the administrative courts and the criminal judgeships of peace. No outcome can be guaranteed.

Who we help
We help foreign nationals living in or arriving in Turkey, including Iranian, Afghan, Syrian, Iraqi, Yemeni, Libyan and Palestinian nationals, people from other countries, and stateless persons. Our office is in Ankara, close to the courts and the migration authorities that decide these cases.
Matters we handle
- Deportation (removal) decisions and objections before the administrative court
- Administrative detention and being held in a removal center, and objections to it
- Residence permit applications that were refused or cancelled
- Problems with refugee, international protection or temporary protection status, such as cancellation of status or registration problems
- Entry bans to Turkey
- Work permits that were refused or cancelled
- Family reunification and student residence permits
- Turkish citizenship applications and lawsuits against refusals
Received a deportation decision? Do this first
- Photograph the whole decision and the notification paper, and write down the date you received it.
- Keep copies of your passport, ID or residence card and any paper from the migration authority.
- Do not sign a paper you do not understand, and ask for a copy of it.
- Send us the photos, the notification date and where you are (city or removal center) on WhatsApp.
Deadlines you must not miss
| Situation | Time limit | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Lawsuit against a deportation decision | 7 days from notification | Law No. 6458, art. 53 |
| Objection to administrative detention (criminal judgeship of peace) | The law sets no fixed period; you can apply while detention continues | Law No. 6458, art. 57 |
| Lawsuit against refusal or cancellation of a residence permit | 60 days from notification | Law No. 2577, art. 7 |
How the process works
- Review: We read the decision, check the notification date and the legal basis, and identify which deadline applies.
- Power of attorney: Inside Turkey it is signed at a notary; from abroad, at a Turkish consulate. Many steps can then be handled without you coming to our office.
- Lawsuit or objection: We file the case at the administrative court, or the objection at the criminal judgeship of peace.
- Follow-up: We follow the file through the national court system (UYAP) and keep you informed in writing.
Documents to prepare
- Passport or other identity document
- The decision you were notified of, and anything showing the notification date
- Residence permit, temporary protection or international protection papers, and letters from the migration authority
- Family, work or study documents connected to your case
Frequently asked questions
I received a deportation decision. How long do I have?
A lawsuit against a deportation decision generally has to be filed at the administrative court within 7 days of notification. Tell us the notification date in your first message.
Will I be deported while the case is pending?
As a rule, a foreign national is not deported during the filing period and until the case is concluded. The law lists exceptions linked to public order and security, so the reasoning of the decision should be reviewed immediately.
I am held in a removal center. Can this be challenged?
Yes. An objection to administrative detention can be filed with the criminal judgeship of peace, and the law sets no fixed deadline while detention continues. Detention for deportation purposes generally cannot exceed six months, and it can be extended by up to six more months where the legal conditions exist.
My residence permit application was refused. What can I do?
A lawsuit can generally be filed at the administrative court within 60 days of notification. If you were also given a period to leave Turkey, that period must be considered together with a new application or the lawsuit.
Can you help if I cannot come to your office?
Yes. A power of attorney given to your lawyer lets most steps be handled without your presence. We explain how at first contact.
Can you guarantee the result?
No. Every file is different, and no lawyer can promise an outcome. We assess your documents, explain the options and the deadlines, and agree the fee openly at the first meeting.
