← Turkish Citizenship by Investment: overview
One investment can cover the investor’s family, but only the persons named in the Law. This page explains who is included, which documents prove the family relationship and what is not covered.
Short answer: Under Article 12(1)(b) of Law No. 5901, the investor’s foreign spouse and the minor or dependent foreign children of the investor or of the spouse can acquire citizenship through the same procedure, without a separate investment. Parents, siblings and independent adult children are not named in the Law.

Who is included
- The investor’s foreign spouse.
- Minor foreign children of the investor.
- Minor foreign children of the spouse.
- Foreign children of the investor or the spouse who are dependent, as the Law words it.
Whether an adult child is “dependent” is assessed by the authorities on the facts of the file. We review the evidence with you before filing.
Documents that prove the family relationship
- A marriage certificate for the spouse.
- Birth certificates or population registry extracts for the children, showing the family link.
- Passports or equivalent documents for each family member.
- Civil status documents, and divorce or death documents where relevant.
Documents issued abroad usually need an apostille or legalisation and a sworn Turkish translation. Regulation art. 20/3 lists the documents for the file.
Dual citizenship
Türkiye does not require you to give up your existing citizenship when you acquire Turkish citizenship. Check your home country’s rules, because some countries restrict holding a second citizenship.
What can go wrong for the family
Family members’ citizenship rests on the same file. If the investor’s citizenship decision or investment certificate is cancelled, as reported in some 2026 review cases, the decision may also extend to the spouse and children who acquired citizenship through that application. See our page on rejection, cancellation and lawsuits.
Frequently asked questions
Can my parents be included?
No. The Law names only the foreign spouse and the minor or dependent foreign children. Parents and siblings would need to use another legal route.
Can my adult child be included?
Only if the child is dependent in the sense of the Law, which the authorities assess on the facts. An independent adult child is not covered.
Does my spouse need a separate investment?
No. The spouse and eligible children are included in the investor’s procedure without a separate investment.
Do I lose my other citizenship?
Türkiye does not require you to renounce it. Check the rules of your home country.
